Empower Her: Promoting Girls in Technology, a pre-event of IT Meet 2023 in collaboration with Hult Prize at Kathmandu University led by Priyanshu Sharma. The event was successfully held on 25th of November, at Nepal Technology Innovation Centre, Kathmandu University with the team of Kathmandu University Computer Club, managed by Hult Prize at Kathmandu University and sponsored by Clevero. The event accomplished with the aim to empower women in tech, both within and beyond government, by amplifying the voices of young women and collectively reshaping the future. This small event undoubtedly served as an example of a humble beginning to improve Women’s rights, gender equality, and education in deprived sections of the local community.
Empower Her was truly an event that seeked to inspire, empower, and equip young women with confidence to thrive in the ever- evolving landscape of technology. This was an impactful all-women’s event that blended inspiration and innovation to foster empowerment where a number of 93 girls registered as participants. This all-girl tech event highlighted welcome ceremony, self-reflection program about what makes yourself proud, session by a civil servant about how to work for and with the government, panel discussion where the guests were asked about the experience when working in technology, and misconceptions of women in tech, Tech Horizons, an engaging game as Idea Quest by HPKU and lastly photo sessions and closing ceremony was a great success. The event featured speakers including Gunakeshari Pradhan, a former director of Nepal Telecom, Agma Malakar, an IT associate expert with Planning Commission City KTM, Praynita Karki – Assistant Professor at Kathmandu University, Roja Kiran Basukala, Deputy Director at NTA and Vice President at CSRI and Sarila Ngakhusi. A big appreciation to these speakers for not just empowering girls in technology, but also setting an inspiring example in our society and motivating young women.
With the hope of social justice, tolerance, and confidence, allowing individuals to live in safety and dignity, Empower Her was a grand success. HPKU is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with this event. This event has really inspired young females to be tech-savvy despite common misconceptions.
